RIVER RANGERS PROJECT

Welcome to Baramadagal Darug Tribal Governing Council Cultural Center

The Baramadagal-led River Rangers project is a community-led initiative currently being piloted by Baramadagal people alongside community members from other Darug family groups.

Through regular walks along Country, River Rangers monitor water conditions, observe environmental changes, collect sovereign data, remove rubbish from waterways and riverbanks, and contribute to a growing community-owned record of the health of our waterways.

The project is grounded in the principle that caring for Country is an ongoing cultural responsibility. River Rangers also provides a space for cultural learning, intergenerational knowledge sharing and connection, creating opportunities for young people and community members to walk together on Country while strengthening relationships with place, water and one another.

Information gathered through the project will contribute to community-owned reporting that supports traditional custodian stewardship, advocacy and long-term care for Country. The report will be released in 2027.

If you would like to support or collaborate with the River Rangers project in any way, we would love to hear from you.

Photos from our River Rangers walks and activities can be viewed in the "What We Get Up To" section of this website.

Upcoming Events

Upcoming planned walks are for Baramadagal and broader Darug Community members on an invite basis (you have to be already known to the Community).

We will advise of walks planned for whole community involvement after the conclusion of the pilot program.
