Our logo tells important parts of our story
The Bara: The Bara (eel) is the Totem of the Baramadagal people. Pictured is a Bara that enters the graphic from the top, symbolising its origin spanning from time immemorial. The body of the Bara presents fluid like the waters it lives in and creates a circle reminding us of the cyclic nature of time, place and all life forms. The head of the Bara is directed forward; the direction Baramadagal mob are moving in today.
Dharug Communities: The symbols at the top of the image represent people sitting around campfires, this speaks to how Dharug communities were; intact and thriving, prior to invasion.
First Invaded: The three layers of warm colours is an acknowledgment of both Dharug Clan groups being the first invaded, it also speaks to the colonisation and violence our people and communities have experienced since that time, which continues to severely impact both place (Country / Ngurra) and people (Iyora) today.
The Children Came Back: In the centre of the Bara’s looped body is a bright burning campfire calling the children home to sit, listen and learn. It is surrounded by two tones of blue which symbolise place; Baramada – where the salt and fresh waters meet.
The rows of dots streaming toward the campfire symbolise the Baramadagal and other Dharug Clan groups, coming together today and journeying home to Country and Kin to continue a strong, proud and unbroken culture.
